Fur and faux fur rugs are VERY expensive! But I love them because they are super-luxurious, sexy, chic and add serious design cred to any room you put them in:
Here is the good news: you can make your own faux fur rug for a fraction of the cost buying one; a rug you can customize the size of so that it is exactly what you need for your room (rather than a standard size you would buy). Cheaper AND a better fit.
Here is what you will need for this project:
- Ikea Stopp Filt anti-slip rug underlay (large size)
- 3 yards of 64″-wide faux fur
- Velcro strips
- Hot glue
Step 1:
Lay down the underlay and the faux fur and cut them to exactly the same size. You can customize the size and even then shape to whatever fits your design.
Step 2:
Lay the faux fur down on the floor (shaggy side down) and align the anti-slip on top of it. Fold back a corner of the anti slip and use the hot glue to affix the velcro to the anti-slip.
Step 3:
Put hot glue on the other side of the velcro and lay the anti-slip back down onto the fabric so that the velcro affixes to the back of the faux fur.
Step 4:
Continue around the border gluing the velcro until you have enough to hold it securely.
What I like about velcro-ing the two layers together is that you can un-velcro them and throw the faux fur in the washing machine! How cool is that?

I miss my rug <3
It lasted a long time!
I think that my rug lasted the longest out of all of them. It lasted for a few months in our new home belite Bella peed on it!
That would be quite a long time!
