I like to keep abreast of cool and trending home upgrades because it is a terrible feeling to finish a home project and then see the greatest idea ever-after its too late. So even when there is nothing going on and nothing planned for our house, I research. I never want to hear myself crying “Oh, I WISH we would have done THAT!”
Here is a list of 10 awesome upgrades to file away in the home renovation section of your brain:
1. Hide charging stations inside drawers.
It seems like there is no end to the amount of devices that pile up. As our kids get older, they will all have phones and I think our house will end up looking like an Apple Store with smart phones and tablets charging on ever counter. I LOVE this idea to keep the counters for cuisine and the drawers for devices.
2. Keep your beautiful backsplash free of outlets.
Standard code says you need an outlet every four feet for countertops. Whatever backsplash you choose, you probably love it and don’t want to break up it’s beauty with ugly outlets. You don’t have to!
3. Opt for wall beds in the kids room instead of bunk.
Bunk beds are a great way to save space in a shared kid’s room but here is a way to get both beds off the floor. When their friends come over, they have a full playroom.
4. Why not throw in an outdoor shower?
This is perfect for a beach house or one with a pool. And for $325, it just screams LUXURY! Buy it here.
5. Build a dog-wash station in the laundry room or back entry of the house.
Don’t tell anyone I said so but this could be a great place to hose down dirty kids, too.
6. Add a slide-in/out step stool in the bathroom or kitchen.
The stool in our bathroom is just constantly being dragged to and from the sink several times each day and takes up floor space we don’t have. This is genius!
7. Build built-in drawers in between the studs in the bathroom.
This is one of the best space CREATORS I have seen. If you have a tight bathroom and no where to put anything, this makes storage space out of nothing!
8. If your garage and kitchen share a wall but not a door, build a small door for easy unloading of groceries.
If you are the grocery shopper in the house you can see IMMEDIATELY the value of this little door. No need for further explanation.
9. Make fake drawers functional.
It’s all about counter space, people. Whatever you can do to get stuff off the counters is just a great idea.
10. Make built in counter-top storage for dry foods.
I don’t know about you but the garlic, onions, potatoes, bread and avocados are taking over my counter tops. This is great.
Which one of these made your MUST-HAVE list?
