It's WISE to DIY: Thrify Ideas for the Do-It-Yourselfer

DIY A $900 Anthropologie Light Fixture? Yes, Please.

I am a freak for all things Anthropologie.  I cannot walk by without doing a lap around the store and my husband knows where all the comfy chairs are.

This is a fantastic DIY that will give you a beautiful light fixture that is almost identical to the one they sell at Anthro for $900.

The simple and very inexpensive materials you will need are:

  • 100–125  white standard-sized paper cupcake liners
  • 100–125  vertically striped petit fours papers
  • (1) 18–20″ white paper lantern
  • hot glue gun
  • 1 Hemma Cord from IKEA (for lighting) ($3.99)

Here are the simple steps:

  1. Asseemble the lantern and place it in a bowl for stablility.
  2. Starting about 1/2″ from the wire ring at the top of the lantern, begin hot-gluing cupcake liners onto the lantern.  Place a small dot of glue on the cupcake liner and apply to the lantern.  Continue this process, covering the lantern and placing the liners about 1″ apart to allow for some outer edges to merge and shape.  When you get most of the way down the lantern, flip it over and continue till you finish the bottom.
  3. Now take the petit fours papers and glue one inside each cupcake liner in the same fashion.
  4. When all the gluing is complete, you can go around the lamp and shape the liners a bit, making sure they all look pretty.  Don’t manipulate them too much because you don’t want them to wrinkle and the natural shape they take will mostly be best.
  5. Now, drop in the wire and hang!
