It's WISE to DIY: Thrify Ideas for the Do-It-Yourselfer

A Backwards Hack Gets You An On-Trend Crochet Tapestry Fast!

You have your materials, now here is what you will do:

  1. First you will cut off one end of your rug and unravel it.  Do this about 7-8 inches up. Set the chenille that you have pulled off over to the side.  You now have a thin layer of fringe at the bottom of the tapestry.
  2. Tie a double knot every inch or so across the edge so that the rug does not unravel any further.  Then add a line of hot glue across the bottom edge ABOVE the fringe.  This will strengthen and prevent further unraveling.
  3. Now we will add more layers of fringe in the yarn and the jute.  Cut 14+ inch strips of the chenille you pulled off the rug.
  4. Reattach the strips to the rug with a Larks Head knot.  You may run out of yarn from the rug.  If so, use your new yarn.
  5. Simply repeat this knot in patterns all over your rug using the chenille and yarn and also the unraveled new rope.  You can make the same design here by following my pattern or try your own design.
  6. After the fringe has been added, trim in in a diagonal pattern of your choice.
  7. Now for the hanging:  rip out the seam of the folded band edge on one end of the rug.  You will unroll the edge and fold it over once so that the cafe rod will fit inside.  Then use your hot glue to seal it up on the back.  (Your rug may not have a band edge and if this is the case, just fold the rug over and hot glue it back down on the back of the rug.
  8. Now just slide in the cafe rod and use a long piece of jute tied to both ends to hang it up!  (If you can find a straight and thin branch/stick to use instead of the rod, this will add some nice character.)

Try this and let us know how it goes!
