Working with cement is much easier than you may expect it to be and also a lot of fun. It’s also a very forgiving material because any imperfections that wind up in the final product actually just end up adding to it’s charm and beauty.
This pencil holder and knick-knack tray are a great way to get your feet wet with a concrete project.
According to apairandaspare:
You need:
- Quick dry cement & water
- Two sets of plastic molds – two shallow ones that fit inside each other for the flat dish, and two cylindrical ones for the planter/pencil holder. I used tupperware and plastic chinese food containers.
- Oil
How to:
- Mix the cement as outlined on the packet.
- Oils the inside of the two bigger molds and the outside of the two smaller molds.
- Pour the cement it into the bigger containers. Only half fill them.
- Wait a few moments and then press in the second smaller containers. You’ll need to make sure it’s been pressed to the right depth so that you can see that the resulting cement container is deep enough, and also has a thick enough base.
- Let dry overnight, and then remove the molds. You may have to cut them off if the cement has stuck.
Check out how pretty they look!
