It's WISE to DIY: Thrify Ideas for the Do-It-Yourselfer

Book Shelves + Kid’s Art Supplies = A Cool Look AND Less Video Games

The kid’s art supplies are hard in keep in order because every time they use them, they put them back messier than they were.  After a few weeks or months, the art cabinet is a disaster–messy piles of paper (used and unused), disorganized markers (many out of ink), broken crayons…you’ve seen it.

This is why I love this simple and brilliant idea from Raising Lemons which solves several problems at once.  Instead of keeping all the art supplies in a covered up space, they are DISPLAYED on bookshelves.  GENIUS!  Not only does this look very cool and vibrant, but it also keeps the art supplies out where the kids can see them all the time which encourages more art and LESS video games.

Not only does this mean less “screen time” (time spent on screens of any kind, i.e. iPads, computers, video games, TV, etc.), but it is also much easier to keep the supplies organized and clean because they are out where every item has it’s own place and where everyone can see them.

I love the big glass jars that she uses but you could use the containers of your choice.  Here is a tip:  You would be very surprised at what you can find at the $.99 Store.  I was able to find some very nice clear, simple and heavy plastic containers for all the markers.  They weigh less than the glass and no one breaks them.  (Not that I would care at $.99/each.)  Honestly, they don’t look as nice as the glass but I will wait till my kids are a bit older to switch.

Try this!!

We would love to see the pics of your new art space!
