It's WISE to DIY: Thrify Ideas for the Do-It-Yourselfer

Dipping Roses In Food Coloring has an AMAZING Effect

Materials:

  • Test tubes
  • Rubber bands
  • Food coloring
  • X-Acto Knife
  • White Roses (Buds)

Directions:

1.  With your X-Acto Knife, make slits up the base of each rose stem.  Make as many slits as you want colors.  (Each stem will be separated into different test tubes with different color dye.)

2.  Take your test tubes and add a small bit of water and several drops of food coloring.

3.  Wrap a rubber band around the the test tubes to hold them together.

4.  Put the rose stem in the test tube, one section of the stem in each color.  (If you want to make each rose only one color, just make one slit and put the whole stem in one test tube or even a glass like the picture shows above.)

5.  Put the test tubes in glass or other receptacle to hold them upright.

6.  Let it sit for several hours or overnight for best results.  The food coloring/water mixture will slowly be absorbed up the stem and into the pedals so the longer you let it sit, the more vibrant the color will be.

And there you have your rainbow roses!
