First, he started out with old desk. Then he sanded the heck out of it with an orbital sander and 220 grit. Attests that the wood was so soft when he was done. Perfect!
After removing all the hardware from he drawers and filling the holes with filler, he painted the body of the desk.
Then stained the desktop…
and the pullout. Then added the new hardware.source
The finished product is classic and in my opinion, PERFECTION!
This is a classic piece that will never get old. I’m jealous!
Have you ever restored a desk? Please show us what you did!
Thank you to the brave and wise DIYer who posted all of his pics up at imgur for us to see. There are lots more pics of his project there to check out.
Nice
ugly hardware.
Finished it looked great!
As a teacher, I would have just sanded and polyed it. The tales it could tell.
You did a really nice job. I have a similar desk…. hmmmm maybe I’ll keep it and redo it. Enjoy
finished product looked good & you know it will last another 50+ yrs because it was made back when furniture was made with real wood. If you dont think so try to move it. 🙂
This would be awesome as a vanity for a bathroom also! Add a sink. It already has storage.
Nice job
Looks great!
