At first glance you may take a look at this DIY and think “oh, no, I don’t do electric!” but please don’t do that.  This is SUCH a cool project that takes almost no time and is actually worth doing even if you have to go out and BUY a desk lamp like this one.  There is no electric work involved other than cutting off and removing the cord.
