It's WISE to DIY: Thrify Ideas for the Do-It-Yourselfer

How To Tighten Your Loose Sunglasses

Here is how you can tighten your own glasses:

  1. Procure a glass repair kit at your local CVS or online.  They are just a few bucks.  (If you have a set of very small screwdrivers at home, this will also suffice–as long as you don’t need to replace the screws as in step #3.)
  2. There is a tiny screw which holds the legs of the glasses to the frame.  Use the little screwdriver to tighten those screws.  Don’t go too far, you don’t want to strip the inside of the hole.  Just a bit, then check to see if it’s tight enough.  You may be good to go right here.
  3. If they loosen up quickly, you will need to replace the screws.  The glass repair kit comes with replacement screws.  Tighten the new screws and try them on again.

4. If after replacing the screws the loosening persists, you may have a case of stretched out hinges.  In some kits, there are small bands you can use to hold the hinges in place but this is not the classiest look.  You will probably need to seek professional optical help or just get new ones.

This tutorial is definitely saving me a “tail between my legs” trip to Sunglass Hut and I hope it helps you, too!
