If you have ever opened a bottle of wine and smelled the foul smell of old gym socks, then you have experienced “cork taint”.

Cork taint is what you get when mold found in the crevices or the cork mixes with a solution that is used to clean the corks.  A chemical called “trichloranisole” AKA “TCA” is created in the cork, seeps into the wine and destroys the whole bottle.
