It's WISE to DIY: Thrify Ideas for the Do-It-Yourselfer

I Wanted To Yell “STOP!” When She Took A Bleach Pen To Her Shirt But Now I Am Running To Do The Same!

Supplies:

  • bleach pen
  • t-shirt
  • wax paper
  • cardboard sheet

Directions:

First you want to protect the back of your shirt from the bleach pen.  Cut up a piece of wax paper the same size as your cardboard and slide both (wax paper side up) into the t-shirt.

Take your beach pen and draw or write whatever you want on it.

Let it sit about 10 minutes till you can see the bleach really turning the fabric white.  You want to keep an eye on it because the bleach will eventually burn through the fabric.

Here is what somethingturquoise had to say:

This tank and the green tanks only took 10 minutes, but my sweatshirt took 20 minutes – it all depends on the fabric! If you can’t see the shirt changing colors from the edges of the bleach, carefully lift up the shirt and look at the underside. When it looks close to white it is done! ***Since all materials are greatly different, I recommend doing a test spot inside your chosen shirt – on a seam – to find out exactly what color your shirt will bleach up to OR how long to bleach it for!

When it is ready, remove the cardboard carefully and run a heavy stream of water over it.  Try your best to keep the bleach off the other parts of the shirt and get all the bleach off quickly.

Lastly, use hand soap to wash the bleached area well, ensuring all residue is gone.

Voila!

This is an amazing craft to do at a shower or party.  (Maybe not for little ones…the bleach is not a good craft item for kids.)

What is the coolest thing you ever did to a t-shirt?

Thank you to somethingturquoise for this awesome tutorial!  See their site for more deets and pics!

I’ve done this with rubber stamps when I got a spot on a shirt a bleach spot . I just took a heart shaped rubber stamp put the bleach on it and stamped the shirt randomly . Turned out pretty good rather than throwing it away .
