It's WISE to DIY: Thrify Ideas for the Do-It-Yourselfer

It Was Just a Big Empty Jar But Then, It Was The PERFECT Gift For Mother’s Day!

Yes, Mother’s Day is coming up quickly and we are once again faced with the question of what to get for Mom that will make her truly happy but won’t break your bank.

It has been a few years now that I have been on the receiving AND giving end of this holiday and so I can say from EXPERIENCE that it is actually NOT true when they say “It’s the thought that counts”.

What IS true is that it’s the ACTIONS that count.  That is not to say that you have to spend a lot of money!!  It IS to say that Mom will feel special if her son/daughter puts in the thought and the effort to create a gift that will touch her heart.  Something that will let her know that you thought about her, that you put in some effort and that you tried to do something special.

OK, I’ll get off my soapbox now and onto the perfect gift idea:

MOTHER’S DAY IN A JAR!

This is an amazing idea because not only will your mom be getting a gift package full of personalized gifts, but as she goes through the jar and sees each item, she will see over and over how personal and thoughtful this gift is.  Not only that, as she uses the items, she will be reminded daily about this awesome gift that you created specially for her and about what a superb and favorite child you are to her. :))

This is very easy to put together.  The real fun is in strolling through the mall or Target to pick out things she will love.

  • You want to start with a big cookie jar style jar.  This are easily found at any kitchen or craft store.  Find something fairly large that will fit lots of items.
  • To make the jar more crafty and fun, look for some little letter you can hang on a string to “necklace” the jar with a label for her.
  • Next, add some crinkled string paper or craft grass
  • Then start adding in the personal items you found for her.  Presentation is key so place everything in carefully with labels facing forward and bigger items behind the small ones.
  • You could tie a pretty ribbon around the whole thing to finish it off.
