The perfect solution to handle slippery steps is to give them a coat of sandy paint. It looks clean and it has an abrasive, sandy finish that is safer to walk/run up and down on.
Here is how you do it!
Materials:
- 1 bag of fine sand (hardware store purchase)
- 1 can outdoor regular paint
- bucket
- mixing stick
- painter’s tape
Directions:
- Give the stairs one fresh coat of paint. (Make sure you do the required prep of sanding and priming as necessary.)
- Using your painter’s tape, outline 2-3 stripes on each step that run the whole length of the step.
- In your bucket, combine 2 cups of paint with 3/4 cups of the sand.
- Paint your stripes with the sandy paint. Make sure it stays mixed well so that you get a good amount of sand in each stripe.
- Let dry.
- Paint one last coat of plain paint over the whole step.
That’s it! Slip-proof steps!
