This DIY is quick, easy, fun and cheap. What could be better!?
If you have any windows in your home or apartment where you want the natural light but need a little privacy, this is a truly lovely solution.
Granted, it is a bit feminine but I am wondering how we can use this idea and make it masculine, as well…
Maybe you can think of some ideas as you scroll down the next page…

For a more masculine look, maybe a very loose-weave burlap fabric.
Darlajean Blazavier – I can see you doing this!
They have a contact paper that is the same lacy pattern, works great on windows, peels off easily too
yes and it can be whipped off with windex to clean…you can’t clean this or your going to pull off the lace and disolve the cornstarch mix…otherwise it’s a nice idea if you don’t want it to stay on for very long
Brilliant!!!
that’s really cool, after the holidays I’m going to try that
I live in an apartment on the first floor and l love this idea. Can it be removed easily and with no damage to the windows?
Rebecca Crouch
Looks like I need to find some lace.
Bad site.
Mary Carmichael Jones I love this!
wouldnt all of this egg white or cornstarch attract ants or bugs?
The cornstarch with a little water ends up like a thin, fast-drying white glue. I don’t think bugs would be attracted anymore than the kids art projects from school. I have no idea about egg whites, but I personally wouldn’t use them. I didn’t see them mentioned.
Someone mentioned using a vinyl tablecloth with a lace print. Not sure how well it would stick to the window but it does seem like the material would be easier to clean.
Very cool idea!!
You can do this with most any fabric. I used cornstarch you can buy in liquid form and wet the material, then you apply on walls etc like wall paper. I left it up for approx 7 years until the kids out grew the Noah’s Arch theme. All you have to do is peel off. It saved my walls in the toy room from scuffs and marks as well as decorative effect.
This is such a cool idea. Have to give this one a try.
Interesting.
I did this and it has held up very well and was really easy
oh my gosh this is awesome .think I’ll try it
Love it!!
This has been done also with fabric on walls for wallpaper.
I’d bet a pretty sheer would also work, and you could use the same fabric to hang as curtains – cheap chic!! (y)
You can use this to cover walls also. To remove, moisten the fabric with water and it comes off without harming the paint. Using any fabric, not just lace.
I love the idea but was wondering, is it easy to remove? I live in an apartment so if we move I would have to remove the window coverings.
A neat idea, as well as the comments below!
I am soooo doing this!
Just look up curtains for boys room to get ideas, If you can get curtains that are cheap enpugh that would work. I am sure the fabic stores would have yard goods for men. Something like this is nice. I also saw some with boats on them that was nice.
I would think is would be a dusty mess in a short time, the grime you get off your windows when you wash them….
Good idea!!!
Very easy to make masculine. I did it by using a sheer. I went to the local thrift store and found some sheers that had a hunting theme to them. So I was able to fussy cut each window pain for a guy’s man cave bathroom. Wish I could find the pictures.
This would be nice to do on door glass to an old cabinet or entrance to home.
I wonder if burlap would work???
Love this
I spray, with a fine mister, colloidal silver on my windows after I clean them. No mold for 3 months.
Tammy Nixon Moss, Deborah Nixon Chapman, Amanda Chapman Blake
What a great idea…
you could always dye the lace fabric to match a boys room
Michelle Horn Ames, you knew this!!
Years ago!!! I used lace and Elmers glue.
This would be a good solution to the bird strike problem.
Jessica Van De Guchte Not the egg white. It drys hard and clear. The corn starch is another matter. If your worried about the egg white, mix Elmer’s white school glue with equal parts of water instead. Works just as good but it harder to remove.
Thanks! What a great idea! 🙂
Dawn Mc Donald
I wonder if this would work in my bathroom window?
Love it!
for you Lori
Krista Loewenhagen
corn starch does so much love it
Rhianna Rhee Hedrick, we could do this.
clear contact paper comes in many patterns, is great for light and privacy. I did it 30 years ago in our bathroom.
I’ve used AquaNet hair spray (this is a time when the cheaper the hair spray the better) and then applied fabric in a bathroom. It lasted quite a while and no problem with moisture. When you want to take it off spray on window cleaner, peel and wash the window. The fabric can go in the wash and be used again. 🙂
