It's WISE to DIY: Thrify Ideas for the Do-It-Yourselfer

She Made The Coolest Wall Art Out Of These Boxes For $1.00!!

Supplies:

  • Contact paper from the Dollar Store
  • Boxes from your pantry-either from cereal, crackers, granola bars or the like.  Select the size that works for your wall space.

Directions:

1. Cut the contact paper to size for each box as if you were going to wrap the box like a present.

(If your contact paper is light and your boxes are dark you may want to do a test spot to see if you can see through the paper.  If so, you should do a quick spray white spray paint of the box to handle that problem.)

2. Wrap the box in the contact paper like you are wrapping a present.  Don’t worry about covering the whole back.

3. If there is a small space left uncovered, just cut out a patch and match up the pattern.

4. To hang, simple use your scissors to slice a hole/slit in the back of the box. Hook it on to a nail in the wall.

Voila!

I love that they are covered in contact paper which means they can be wiped down with a damp rag when they get dusty.

I can see other uses for this as well.  How about doing just a couple and leaving the box tops open so you can slip your mail and all the papers that are on the counter in them?  How cute for storage!

What else could these be used for?

Thanks to ahhhmom for this great idea!!  See her site for lots more pics.

Reminds me of being dirt poor, and having to come up with a gift for a b-day party for my kid to take. I took empty boxes…all proportional, covered them in aluminum foil, connected them with strings, and put a face on it…it was the Cheerios Robot. Turned out to be the kid’s favorite gift of the day, and he hung it on his wall and kept it, they said for over a year…loved it.

So I’m totally behind this cute idea. People really aren’t supporting up-cycling our trash enough, and this is great!
