It's WISE to DIY: Thrify Ideas for the Do-It-Yourselfer

SUPER-SIMPLE Composting – For The Hesitant Beginner!

Here are a few bonus tips for you to ensure that your composting goes well:

  • Your compost should always be MOIST.  Add a cup of water each time you add food to keep the desired moisture level.  You should keep the bin in an uncovered area so that the rain can get to it as well.
  • Never add food to the compost that has butter, salt or any dairy products at all.  The rule of thumb is that ‘if it grew in the ground then you can add it’.  There are some exceptions to this rule such as eggshells but this is a good rule to keep in mind.
  • If you choose to add worms to your compost, this will help and speed up the process.
  • The smaller the food particles, the faster they will decompose.

When you have your compost soil, you will incorporate it into the regular soil in your garden.  Adding a few inches of compost soil into your regular soil and mixing it in will help your plants and flowers thrive.  They will thank you for it!

I hope this gets you excited about composting!
