This project reminded me of the hand-me-down toy wreath but I have to admit, I like this one even more. Here it is:
Materials:
- action figures-hard plastic, not rubbery. (If you don’t have any you can buy a box off Ebay)
- spray paint – I’m doing white and then gold for better coverage
- x-acto knife for cleanup and trimming
- fine grit sandpaper (to feather sand the lamp so that the
- E6000 glue
- super glue of choice
- painter’s tape
- lamp (must be skinny and tall for best results)
Directions:
1. Feather sand the lamp so that the paint and glue will adhere better.
2. Tape up the top end of the lamp so no paint gets into the electrical parts. Also tape up the cord.
3. Start gluing the action figures in place. A few helpful tips are 1) start with the big ones near the base, 2) glue the arms and legs into position, 3) use marking tape to hold the glued parts into place while they dry. Some plastics won’t glue as well as others. Be patient!
4. Let sit 24 hours.
5. Remove tape.
6. Use X-Acto Knife to cut away any exposed glue.
7. Spray with 2 coats of spray paint + primer for plastics. Allow to dry between coats.
8. Allow 2nd coat of primer to dry.
9. Apply 2 coats of gold spray paint (or any color of your choice but gold is SO good.)
Take a look!
So dramatic! And so fun!
Here is a video to walk you through it…
Do you have the right action figures for this lying around? If so, you are lucky!! Get started on this right away! (Or at least put them on Ebay so someone else can.)
