It's WISE to DIY: Thrify Ideas for the Do-It-Yourselfer

This Recipe Replaced Something She ALWAYS Bought At The Store And It Works BETTER!!

DIY Laundry Detergent

Ingredients:

1/3 or a bar of Fels-Naptha soap (grated for melting)

1/2 cup Washing Soda

1/2 cup Borax

Directions:

  1. After you grate the soap, place it in a pot with 3 cups of water and melt over low/medium heat. Be sure not to let it boil over.
  2. When the soap has completely melted, add the washing soda and borax and stir till fully dissolved. (About a minute or two.)
  3. Place 3 gallons of water into your 5 gallon bucket.
  4. Add the mixture from the pot into the bucket and stir.
  5. Let it all sit for 24 hours.  It will get a little bit thicker.
  6. Stir it again well and pour it in the container you want to use to store it.

Use about the same amount you would use of a store-bought detergent.  Like a capful or so.
