step5c

Here is how you do it:

  1. Blow up the balloon to the desired size.  (Keep in mind that f you keep them smaller the lanterns will be rounder.)
  2. Set up the balloons to hang over a place where they can drip dry.  They need to be suspended.
  3. Mix the glue, cornstarch and water in a large container and mix it up till smooth.
  4. Use rubber cloves to cover each balloon in petroleum jelly.
  5. Feed the twine through the glue mixture and then start draping it around the balloon.  Start by wrapping it vertically, then horizontally, and all around until it looks how you want it.  Don’t overdo it, remember that you be stringing lights through it so you need lots of space in between the lines of twine.
  6. Use the twine to hang the wrapped balloons so they can dry.
  7. Wait 24 hours and pop the balloons.
  8. Then spray the lanterns down with a fast-drying, clear spray paint.
  9. They are ready for lights!
