It certainly appears that applying heat to the body of the car is the key element in DIY dent repair.  I posted a hack that involved using a hair dryer to get the job done as well.

If you are going to try this on your car, be sure to use care and do your research on the type of paint you have on your car to ensure you don’t damage it.
