When you are cooking pasta or oatmeal, get out your wooden spoon and leave it over the top of the pot.
When it comes to a boil and begins to overflow, the wooden spoon will prevent it from going over the edge!
It basically breaks up the bubbles because it has a cooler temperature.
This REALLY works! I use this hack all the time and I have to clean my stove top a lot less.
According to food-hacks, there is a drawback:
At some point, your wooden spoon will heat up and the water will rise no matter what. And don’t try using a metal spoon in lieu of a wooden one—metals conduct heat much more quickly.

That worked in my house too, that spoon was magic and I never actually touched anyone with it, just kept tapping my own palm. That is until the night that I was trying to get a point across and hit the bed footboard. The wooden spoon broke and all of us laughed so hard we had tears running down our face! I never had to threaten with a wooden spoon again because I’d just mention the spoon and we would just break out laughing!
